Haley de Jong Named to the SEC Community Service Team

Graduate Haley de Jong of the University of Georgia gymnastics team was named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the conference announced Friday.

As a season veteran of the Georgia GymDogs, de Jong stands out as the team’s leader in Community Service.  The two-year captain and Vancouver native goes above and beyond her call of duty to the UGA and Athens community.

She was a 2021 Georgia Leadership Academy Inductee and is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  Over the course of the last five years at Georgia, de Jong has taken advantage of numerous volunteer opportunities, including Gymnastics Special Olympics, Lydia’s Place, Athens Boys and Girls Club, the back-to-school event with Howard B. Stood Elementary School, and Operation Teammate. She has also participated in Reading Across America at Oconee County Primary School and volunteered at Whitehead Road Elementary’s after school program.

With the Gymnastics Special Olympics, de Jong worked alongside their coaches, assisting throughout practices teaching gymnastics skills including handstands, cartwheels, swings on the bars and many more in preparation for a competition.
