The following was written by Maggie Bresch, who is on the UGA Equestrian team. She is studying Finance through the Terry College of Business and had the opportunity to pursue a study abroad trip during Summer 2025.
I had an incredible experience and time abroad, and I am so grateful I had the opportunity. I had the chance to learn at a top university and gain exposure to how international business works. I also got to experience tutorial type classes. I also got the opportunity to travel around England and to Spain.
While at Oxford, I was able to meet new friends and connect with faculty. One of my favorite memories was formal dinners in the dining hall every Monday night. It was so fun to get dressed up and have formal dinners with friends and professors. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to study at a distinguished institute, travel throughout Europe, and meet new people.
It was a unique opportunity to step outside of my sport and focus on growing both academically and personally. My biggest takeaway was that stepping outside of my comfort zone allowed me to grow in ways I never expected. For other student-athletes considering a study abroad program, I would encourage them to take advantage of the opportunity to explore life beyond their sport. Immersing yourself in a new environment and culture broadens your perspective, and helps you form meaningful connections that last well beyond the trip.
