Keegan McGovern Named To 2018 SEC Community Service Team

ATHENS—–University of Georgia senior Keegan McGovern has been named to the 2018 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for the sport of baseball, the league announced Wednesday. 
This is the second consecutive year that McGovern has been honored by the SEC. His community service efforts including participating in the Home Runs For Hometown Rivals Special Olympics Baseball Game, Operation Christmas Child where the baseball team organized shoeboxes of supplies for children overseas, visiting and reading at area elementary schools, the Salvation Army Christmas Angel Program, collecting toiletries for Project Safe, taking part in the It’s on Us Campaign. Additionally, McGovern has been a part of the UGA Student-Athlete Leadership Academy that recognizes student-athletes for their academic and athletic success, leadership, campus and community service involvement.
Along with his contributions off the field, the 6-2, 220-pound native of Willacoochee, Ga., serves as a co-captain for the 13th-ranked Bulldogs who are enjoying their finest season in a decade at 35-16 overall and 16-11 in the SEC. A four-year starting outfielder, he is having a career year, leading the Bulldogs in numerous categories including batting .326 with 14 home runs, 43 RBI and perfect fielding in 89 total chances. Georgia closes out the regular season starting Thursday with the Arkansas series at Foley Field.
The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts.
