As a student-athlete, I’ve had lots of experiences that will stick with me forever. But this experience, I feel, had the biggest imprint on me emotionally and mentally. We were able to bond with other sports and staff, bond with and learn about another culture, and most importantly provide kids with a pair of Nikes that they otherwise would probably never own in their lifetime. Seeing how happy and excited the kids were about getting one pair of shoes touched my heart more than any other community service event ever has. The experience overall made me step back and think–what do we as Americans really “fill our jar with”?
