Rankin M. Smith, Sr. Student-Athlete Academic Center
Opened in the Fall of 2002, the Rankin M. Smith, Sr. Student-Athlete Academic Center provides the space and cutting-edge resources for all of UGA’s 500-plus student-athletes to achieve their academic goals.
Built at a cost of $7 million, the center bears the name of the late Rankin M. Smith, Sr., a UGA alumnus and former owner of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. The Smith family gave a generous gift of $3.5 million toward the center’s construction.
The 31,000 square foot building contains a 55-seat “smart” classroom, computer lab with 60 desktop stations, writing lab, group and individual study rooms.
