The Art of the Networking Follow-Up

  • Reach out immediately before your impact diminishes.
  • Take notes about individuals you meet to include in the follow up. Write cues on the back of their business cards to remind you their career, title, and interesting facts.
  • Connect on LinkedIn. Try to remind the person how you met.
  • Send a handwritten thank you note. It’s okay to be brief. See Leigh Futch for Georgia-branded cards.
  • Send congratulatory notes if you see he/she was promoted, received an award or was recognized in the community.
  • Reach out once a month or bi-monthly to reconnect and keep your name in mind.
  • Ask yourself how you can help them, rather than trying to find something they can give.
  • Remember the power of one. When you connect with one person and invest in them, you are connecting to their entire network.
