ATHENS, Ga. — University of Georgia junior Mary Terry has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for track and field and cross country for the second time in her career.

Terry, a Norcross, Ga., native, has worked with a number of community service groups, including Hands on Athens, which is a project that aided in the building of a staircase for an area elderly woman.  She volunteered with the Angel Tree Christmas program, which helps children whose parents are incarcerated during the Christmas season, and helped organize a school supplies drive through the UGA College of Education ambassadors for an elementary school in Texas affected by Hurricane Harvey.  Terry was part of an organizing body that helped the Northeast Georgia (NEGA) Food Bank collect can donations for UGA Athletics and the COE ambassador program and she volunteered with the UGA Athletic Association’s Learn, Play, Excel and at Thomas Lay Park’s after-school program.

Terry has worked with the Athens PBJ for the Homeless program on Sundays and with disadvantaged kids at Rolling Ridge Apartments weekly.  The North Oconee graduate helped out at the Bountiful Hills Assisted Living home on a weekly basis and escorted during the Special Olympics prom and their baseball game. Terry led a poetry program for an area middle school and was an Executive Board Member for the Inspire UGA Day in area schools.  Also, she helped with UGA track and field’s service day in the community and volunteered with Keturah Orji’s “Amari’s Pride” program, which mentors lower income middle school girls in the Athens area.  She also jumpstarted an effort to send supplies to the hometown of teammate Cejhae Greene, who is from Antigua & Barbuda where Hurricane Irma came through and did significant damage.

Terry hit a personal-best mark of 5 feet, 9 ¼ inches to take third in the high jump at this year’s Torrin Lawrence Memorial. She concluded her season by taking 11that the SEC Outdoor Championships.
